Hello from here to there,
You made me smile, reading your comments and shares after last week's edition.
Many of you were curious what happened after the NEON GREEN paint job and my little steering-wheel attack. 🙂
I wasn't planning on a sequel. But here we are.
So…What did I do the moment after I lost my mind?
Besides the fact that I said ouch. I went back to the paint store, we chose again, and they repainted the walls.
Then we went looking for carpet.
They pulled out an earth tone, something thin enough, so she wouldn’t trip.
We found a brownish-grey at End of the Roll (a discount flooring store here in Canada) and I asked the gentleman helping us if he'd please lay out the roll on the floor. I wanted to see and feel what it looked like, and actually walk on it.
He laid a section out on the concrete, and I walked to test it for Mama.
Okay. Right color. Right softness. Walker safe.
This is it.

I stepped back, looked at it, and said, "We'll take it. But not this piece! There's dirty footprints all over it. I don't want this one, thank you."
I looked at Mary, she looked back at me and didn't say a word.
The gentleman looked down at my sneakers and then at the carpet.
"Ma'am," he said,
"those are your footprints."
…Oh. 👣
By that night, thanks to the building's very kind maintenance man, Joe, who let us paint late on a Sunday evening, the carpet was down, and the puzzle pieces were coming together.
By God's grace, we got it done.
We took my momma into memory care on that Monday. The drive in is forever etched into me.
My Dad drove his truck.
My mama sat beside him, arm in arm, hand in hand, like they always had.
I noticed everything. Mary and I sat in the back seat, witnessing their love, holding space for one another. Not knowing what would come next, but holding onto each precious moment while it lasted.
It felt fleeting and heart-wrenching all in the same breath.

Then, one of their songs came on the radio, "It's Only Make Believe," by Conway Twitty.
Mom hummed along and patted my father's hand.

I share more about accepting life’s painful realities in this week’s video if you’d like to sit with me a bit longer.
THIS WEEK’S REFLECTION
I invite you to tune in, and ask yourself:
What helps you begin again after a humbling moment?
Was there a painful moment when, in the same breath, you could notice beauty?
It's a gift to walk this path of life, practicing alongside you.

With love,
Sage 🪷
